Description
Charming house on a dike, suitable for double occupancy
A dream for many: a house on a dike with a deep garden, on the edge of the center of Zaandam and with a separate basement, suitable for independent living.
The Zuiddijk was originally a sea dike, but is no longer on the water. The historic house from 1920 has an independent studio apartment in the basement, with its own direct entrance through the (deep) backyard. The main house is part of a semi-detached house.
The renovation has been carried out with a great sense of detail. Strikingly high ceilings on the ground floor and 2 generously sized bedrooms, partly thanks to the dormer windows. Behind the friendly facade is a remarkable amount of living space, with stained glass windows, herringbone parquet and fireplace in the original fireplace in the living room. The rear has been extended and the dining room opens through French doors onto a huge terrace of almost 33 m2. The kitchen, with very deep pantry, is next to it and has been completely renovated and has a practical layout with built-in appliances, including stainless steel 5-burner stove with large oven. The view over the terrace and the rear garden is tempting. The bathroom is located next to the hall and is fully equipped with a walk-in shower, toilet, washbasin with furniture and space for washing machine and dryer.
From the kitchen the stairs lead to the landing on the first floor. On either side are the 2 spacious bedrooms. Light thanks to the windows and high ceilings and playful through the dormer windows, sloping elements and old beams.
The basement is accessible from the garden and via an outside staircase from the balcony terrace. Under the roof is the entrance to the studio installed here: a large open space, with the modern open kitchen on the left, which is partly separated from the living/sleeping area. The basement is built on a concrete box/floor and has a separate, spacious storage room, separate toilet and shower room (with underfloor heating) and double sinks. With 62m2, this place is ideal for independent living, but of course it is also possible to create a home office or fitness room here.
The layout of the garden makes it conceivable to divide it for use by the main residents and the basement guests. In any case, there is enough space in the backyard on the southwest so as not to get in each other's way.
The dike house is very conveniently located in all respects. The center and the NS train station of Zaandam are 5 to 10 minutes by bike, you can do your shopping on foot and educational facilities (from primary to secondary education) are a few hundred meters away. The exit of the A10 is a 4-minute drive and the bus stop is about 450 meters from the front door. This friendly neighborhood, the boom neighborhood, is therefore loved by many. The greenery and water of the North Holland landscape are never far away, and neither are the sports and recreational opportunities. With Amsterdam just a stone's throw away, it is a wonderful combination of urban and rural living.
